Smart Cleaner

When your inbox needs a reset

Newsletters bury the email you actually want

You subscribed with good intentions. Now newsletters arrive faster than you read them, and important conversations are hard to find.

Your next steps

  1. Separate useful from unwanted

Choose a small group of recurring senders. Check whether each also sends receipts, security alerts or confirmations.

  2. Unsubscribe from known lists

Use a supported unsubscribe control for legitimate subscriptions. For suspicious mail, use Gmail’s spam or phishing reporting rather than following unknown links.

  3. Decide about existing messages

Unsubscribing and deleting are separate choices. Review existing mail before enabling an option that trashes a sender’s messages.

  4. Review the result later

Allow senders time to process requests and check new arrivals. A request is not a guarantee that every future message will stop.

Where Smart Cleaner helps

Smart Cleaner groups Gmail senders and uses available unsubscribe headers to make a best-effort request.

What it does not do

It cannot guarantee that every sender supports unsubscribe or respects the request. It does not read bodies to decide which messages are important.

Your review checklist

Tick these as you review. This list does not change your files or email, and clears when you leave or reload.

Questions you might still have

Will unsubscribe delete old newsletters?

Not by itself. In Smart Cleaner, trashing sender messages is a separate optional setting.

Should I unsubscribe from obvious phishing?

Use Gmail’s reporting controls instead of interacting with suspicious links.
