Review similar photos on your iPhone

Similar photos are different shots that look alike. Smart Cleaner groups candidates for your review; you decide which moments and versions to keep.

Look beyond the thumbnail

A burst can contain a sharp frame, a blurred one and a slightly different expression. Open the photos before choosing. Check faces, focus and whether one image includes someone missing from the others. A suggested group is a starting point, not a verdict that a picture has no value.

A simple review workflow

Allow photo access in the app, open the similar-photo groups and review a small group first. Keep the frames you want, then inspect the proposed removal selection before confirming. If you are uncertain, keep both and move to another group. Your available results depend on the photos the app can access.

Duplicates are a different question

Apple Photos has a built-in duplicate-merging option when duplicates are detected. Use that for its supported duplicate groups; use similarity review when the problem is many distinct shots of the same scene. Neither approach is a reason to discard a meaningful variation.

Check sync before removal

When iCloud Photos is enabled, deletion is reflected across devices using that library. A second synced device is not an independent backup. Save anything important separately and verify the copy before confirming deletion. No fixed storage saving is promised.

Good to know

Are similar photos identical files?

Not necessarily. Similarity describes appearance; exact duplicates are a narrower case.

Does this website scan my library?

No. Library review is a native app feature. This page does not access your photos.
