Your next steps
Inspect account storage
Confirm whether Gmail is the large category. Drive or Google Photos may be using most of the shared capacity.
Search for large mail
In Gmail, try a search such as
has:attachment larger:10M. Treat the results as candidates to inspect, not an automatic deletion list.Preserve needed files
Download important attachments to a suitable independent location and open them. Check the conversation for context you also need.
Review deletion and Trash
Remove only checked messages. Inspect Trash before permanent removal and allow time for quota changes to appear.
Choose the right action
| Your priority | A useful approach | Before you act |
|---|---|---|
| Less future mail | Request unsubscribe from legitimate lists you no longer need. | A request is best-effort and does not remove existing messages by itself. |
| Less account storage | Review large unwanted messages and account storage using Gmail and Google’s tools. | Archive does not free capacity; review Trash before permanent deletion. |
Where Smart Cleaner helps
Smart Cleaner helps review recurring senders and reduce unwanted future subscriptions.
What it does not do
Its email workflow does not read attachments or rank them by size. Use Gmail’s own controls for this task.
Your review checklist
Tick these as you review. This list does not change your files or email, and clears when you leave or reload.

Questions you might still have
Does deleting many messages always save lots of space?
No. A small number of large attachments can outweigh many text-only messages.
Is the search query a safe delete command?
No. It only finds candidates. Review the files and conversations before removing anything.
