Start with the job you need to finish

If your library is mostly unwanted screenshots, start by reviewing that category. If several large videos fill your phone, compare smaller copies instead. Smart Cleaner offers similar-photo review, PhotoSwipe, screenshot cleanup and photo and video compression. Cleaner Guru’s listing advertises similar-photo cleanup and video compression alongside other tools. A longer feature list does not establish which app finds the right files for you.

Compare review and compression on your own files

Use a small set you recognize. For similar photos, check which shots are suggested and keep the sharpest or most meaningful version yourself. Similar does not mean identical. For compression, compare the saved copy with the original, including detail and playback. Confirm that the copy opens before considering removal of anything. We have not benchmarked these apps against each other for detection accuracy, quality or speed.

Check the offer shown before subscribing

Both apps list in-app purchases. Check your own storefront and the offer shown in the app for the billing period, trial conditions, renewal price and free limits. We do not publish a universal price or promise a fully free cleanup. If you already subscribe to Cleaner Guru, installing Smart Cleaner does not cancel that subscription. Manage subscriptions through your Apple account; deleting an app does not cancel billing.

Review permissions for the feature you use

Photo access and any optional account connections deserve separate decisions. Read each app’s current privacy policy and App Store privacy information, and consider limited photo access for a first test. Cleaner Guru describes its privacy practices on its website; those are vendor statements, not an independent audit by us. Do not assume a claim about photo processing also covers every optional service or account connection.

Try the built-in option and a focused workflow

Apple Photos includes duplicate merging when it detects duplicates. That may be sufficient for that task without a separate cleanup subscription. For a broader review, Smart Cleaner’s PhotoSwipe and compression workflows may fit the way you want to work. Start with one category and keep originals or backups you still need. No app can promise a particular amount of recovered storage for every library.

How we prepared this comparison

This article is published by the Smart Cleaner team and links to Cleaner Guru’s public website and App Store listing, checked October 27, 2026. It compares documented workflows rather than controlled performance tests. Features, availability and offers can change. Use the current listing and purchase screen for your final decision. Good to know

Does installing Smart Cleaner cancel Cleaner Guru?

No. Manage an existing subscription through your Apple account. Installing another app or deleting Cleaner Guru does not cancel its subscription.

Which app will recover more storage?

We have not run a comparative storage-recovery benchmark. Results depend on your library, the files you choose to remove and whether copies are kept. Check a small selection rather than relying on a universal savings claim.
