Compress a video with a clear quality tradeoff

Video compression makes a new version with different size and quality characteristics. Use the native app for this workflow; our website does not encode video.

Decide what you need the copy for

A messaging attachment, a presentation and an archive do not need the same output. Before compressing, decide whether resolution, fine detail or small file size matters most. Keep the source when you may want to edit or crop it later.

Check the whole result

After compression in the app, watch more than the first frame. Check motion, dark areas, small text, orientation and audio. Confirm that the beginning and end are present. Do not remove the original just because a smaller file was produced.

Leave space for the process

The original and output can coexist during compression. If the phone is nearly full, first review a different removable download or unused item. The website planner helps you choose a manual task; it cannot reserve working storage or determine whether a particular video will fit.

Measure instead of assuming

Actual output depends on the source and settings. An already efficient video may yield little benefit. Compression alone does not delete the original, and cloud-optimized library storage can differ from the full file size. Check the current app before relying on a specific codec or output option.

Good to know

Can I compress video on this website?

No. The first web batch has a photo compressor and a cleanup planner. Video compression is a native app capability.
